Patagonia is a vague geographical area. Its borders vary depending on who is defining them and from where they are being defined. As the Patagonia “concept” has begun to have a commercial value there are an increasing number of claims to Patagonianism from an alarming number of sources.
It is perhaps these arbitrary claims rather than lines on a map that best define Patagonia. It is a place where you can feel the wind, see for miles, travel on horse back, drink mate and eat lamb cooked over a fire. It is the land of the romantic image of the Gaucho, of glaciers, virgin rivers and endless forest. We have no doubt at all that the most beautiful, dramatic and authentic area within Patagonia is Aysén, the 11th region of Chile stretching between the Palena river in the north and the southern ice cap.
The region covers 109 052 km2 of which 51 630 km2 are protected wilderness areas. According to the 1992 census there are a little over 80.000 inhabitants living here, more than half live in Coyhaique, the regional capital. Population density is given as 0.8 inhabitants per km2.
Aysén is young and waiting to happen. It has only recently been discovered by the adventure travel enthusiasts and the world of tourism. The region has an enviable variety and pureness in its nature – the country’s biggest river, one of the world’s largest remaining reserves of fresh water, huge lakes, numerous glaciers and islands that have been barely touched.
Infrastructure is improving and there is a strong push to motivate a culture of tourism at all levels of education. All the ingredients are there for a highly promising and fruitful development of tourism as the regions principle economy.
Our speciality is the creation, design, initiation and operation of activity circuits that provide the bridge between the huge natural potential for tourism and the realities of the global tourism industry. We develop the products that enable visitors to experience the natural grandeur of Aysén as part of a professionally prepared and operated service in safety, comfort and style. As well as being sustainable businesses on their own these activity products are designed to keep visitors here, have them add extra nights in hotels and use the other services that companies provide. |

Despite being one of the worlds few remaining reserves of pure water and incredible natural beauty Aysen is under siege, threatened by huge hydro-electric projects with little sensitivity to the natural environment or consideration for sustainable economies like tourism. We are opposed to these projects and working hard to prevent them and reduce the negative impact they and other projects have on the community and landscape. Check this link for more information.
